Nigerian athletes have taken to social media, to solicit for funds
in order to compete at next month’s Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil.
American-born sprinter, Regina George, who participated at the 2012
Olympics, has opened a page on gofundme.com and is seeking to raise
$4,000. Her plea is ‘Help me get to the Olympics’.
She wrote: “To all my family friends and fans thanks for being here
for me through the good times and bad times. This year it’s been hard
financially for me but it wouldn’t have been possible without your
support. I just been told that we will have to pay our own way to the
Olympics this year . Sadly this is such short notice for me to come up
with the money. They also promised a refund but I’m still waiting for
many refunds promised in the past. I been through a lot of obstacles
this year and through it all I made my SECOND Olympic team. I don’t want
to stop now after I earned a spot to represent my country in the
Olympics. Any donation will help my situation. This will not go
unnoticed and I’m truly grateful for my supporters. Help spread the
word!”
Regina only began to compete in Nigerian colours in 2012, after
anchoring the US 4x400m team to gold at the 2010 World Junior
Championships. She is expected to run at the same event in Rio next
month.
Antwon Hick, a Nigerian hurdler, has also set up a GoFundMe campaign as well. He is trying to raise $5000.
He said: “I’ve battled nagging injuries, missed teams by one
thousandth of a second, and have slept on many a friend’s couch to
pursue my dream.
“Every dime will go towards training, vaccinations (I’m sure you’ve heard of the current situation in Brazil) rehab and travel.”
Militant
group, Niger Delta Avengers, has denied claims by President Muhammadu
Buhari that his administration was holding talks with the militants to
ensure peace reigns in the region.
In a statement issued on Friday
by the group’s spokesman, Mudoch Agbinibo, the Avengers said it was not
aware of any ongoing peace talks.
It read, “Our attention has
been drawn to media report that the President is in touch with Niger
Delta agitators including the Niger Delta Avengers but the truth is that
we are not aware of any peace talk.
“If there is any such peace
talk, it means the President is talking to their mercenaries set to
disturb the genuine struggle of the agitators.
“President Buhari led government is not sincere to the Nigeria people and their foreign allies.
“If
we are to engage in any peace talk we made it clear that the
international community must be part of it. The President knows our
demands. So they should stop deceiving the international oil companies,
the general public and the international community.”

Another drama in the Nigerian music industry, the entertainment sector fans is set to witness yet another beef between an old skool veteran and a new skool singer.
The Punch’s interview with the, veteran reggae singer, Majek Fashek, has revealed that R&B singer, Timi Dakolo capitalised on his state of health and stole his evergreen hit song, ‘Send Down the Rain’,adding that he remade his song without taking permission from him.
In 2013, Timi Dakolo had done a remix of the song, but Fashek said Timi never took permission from him before doing the song.
“He broke the rules of copyright. He is a thief because in music business, he must take permission before he works on someone’s song. That is why we have COSON. I did not give anyone the right to do anything with my song. I have a management team I work with headed by Omenka Uzoma. Dakolo never bothered to look for me before stealing my song.
He has infringed on the laws of copyright and he is not an original artiste. It is only people like Tuface, Wizkid, Olamide that are original.
“I felt bad when I learnt that he worked on my song without my consent. He did not even give me credit. He is a very bad artiste and he took advantage of the circumstance that I was facing during that time. The song is not a normal song; it is a spiritual hit song.
I partook in three days ‘white’ fasting before the song came to me. Timi Dakolo did not go through that. I did not fight him because I do not have time. Let God judge us,”Majek Fashek said.
The Punch stated that Timi Dakolo, was quick to cut short the conversation even before the correspondent could explain reasons for calling. “I am not in the country. There is no allegation levelled against me.
Go ahead and write a better story. I am not in Nigeria,” he said before he rudely ended the call.
Few hours later, Timi Dakolo took to his Instagram page to react to the story which has already gone viral online and social media. Below is what he posted;

The
Enugu state government recently set up a local government audit panel
to look into worker payrolls for the state. According to Today the audit
panel has discovered nearly 4,000 ghost workers in the 17 local
government councils of the state.
The panel revealed
that 3,916 workers whose names were in the payment vouchers could not be
traced. They submitted their report to the state governor, Ifeanyi
Ugwuanyi, adding that this would save the state about N161, 494, 570
monthly or N1.938 billion annually.
Hon. Edward Ubosi,
who is the chairman of the panel and Speaker of the state House of
Assembly, while presenting the report said that the money would be the
difference in the wage bill now that the exercise had been completed.
Ubosi
said: “From the above, N64, 882, 033 and N96, 612, 337.20 from local
government staff gross salaries and teachers’ salaries respectively
should be regarded as monthly savings.” Governor Ugwuanyi, after he
received the report, commended the panel for a job well done. He also
said that the report would go a long way in helping the state government
in the on-going efforts to track down ghost workers in the state public
service.
The committee also recommended that more
teachers be engaged in the primary schools in the state. They also made
26 recommendations for consideration by the government among which is
the removal of all staff in the system found out to have falsified their
ages; impersonators, those in-capacitated by ill-health as well as
those employed contrary to civil service rules.
To curb
the ghost worker trend, the committee also suggested general posting of
local government staff after a bio-metric capturing exercise to ensure
discipline in the system. Meanwhile, only recently despite the dwindling
allocation from the Federal government, the Bauchi state government
says it has discovered 6,065 ghost workers on its payroll.
The
state’s governor, Mohammed Abubakar, revealed this to newsmen during an
interactive session with members of the correspondents’ chapel, Nigeria
Union of Journalists, Bauchi state council.
The Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) has banned indecent dressing in all its branches worldwide.
MFM stated this when the church’s media committee, led by its chairman, Pastor Oladele Bank-Olemoh, visited the headquarters of The Punch at Magboro, Ogun state.
The church on Tuesday, July 12, said its major standard was holiness and that informed its decision to preoccupy itself with the preaching of the gospel.
According to Bank-Olemoh, the general overseer, Dr. Daniel Olukoya, had warned that indecent dressing would no longer be tolerated in the church.
He said: “The G.O. had warned that if those who dress indecently do not change, they will not be allowed into the church.
And today, if anybody is not properly dressed, the person will be not be allowed into the church; we will politely tell the person that he or she cannot enter, that is the standard.”
Bank-Olemoh, however, said it was lamentable that some people hid under Christianity to perpetrate evil.
About a year ago, Dr. Becky Enenche, the wife of the senior pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Abuja officially banned kissing, hugging and pecking in the church. The pastor’s wife said such act would no longer be tolerated in the church.
The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has disclosed details about Chief of Army Staff, Major General Tukur Buratai’s $1.5m mansions in Dubai. The bureau stated that army boss declared the mansions in his wife’s name, The Nation reports.
It said in reply to an FOI request: “Tukur Yusuf Buratai, after his appointment as the Chief of Army Staff, declared his assets as required by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
The request inquired if Buratai declared the mansions or not. The CCB added that Buratai was served the Form CCB-I on July 21, 2015, which he returned on August 21, 2015.
“We also wish to confirm that his property at Dubai was declared in the wife’s name.
Please, accept the warmest regards of the chairman,” it added. On June 29 letter of the chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau, Osuagwu sought explanation on whether or not army boss declared the controversial houses.
The letter said: “We request that the CCB, pursuant to the FOI Act 2011, avail us the following concerning the declarations of Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai.
“On July 13, 2015, President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Gen.
Buratai as Chief of Army Staff. The newspapers are awash that Gen. Buratai and his two wives in 2013 paid 1,498,534.00 AED (N120 million/ $419,000) for a Dubai property, Project TFG Marina Hotel, Unit 2711.” Nigeria’s anti-graft commission has been under pressure to begin probe into how Tuku Buratai bought the Dubai mansions.
Some prominent Nigerians have begun to pressure President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the chief army staff after the revelation that he bought two houses in Dubai, worth $1.5m.

Over 100 lawyers turned out to help this guy – for free
Scores of lawyers turned out in force today offering their services to a pastor who has been leading protests in Zimbabwe.
They joined supporters of protest leader Evan Mawarire outside the
court where he was set to appear after being arrested during a surge of
unrest against President Robert Mugabe’s government.
Mawarire,
a pastor who has been charged with inciting public violence, was an
organiser of a one-day nationwide shutdown last week when offices,
shops, schools and some government departments stayed closed.
Protest organisers had appealed for Zimbabweans to hold another
strike starting on Wednesday, but their calls were largely unsuccessful
with businesses and schools open as usual.
Police were on patrol in the capital Harare after Mawarire, who
founded the internet ThisFlag protest movement, was arrested on Tuesday.

A series of demonstrations in Zimbabwe, where protests are rare under
Mugabe’s authoritarian rule, have been driven by an economic crisis
that left banks short of cash and the government struggling to pay its
workers. The end is coming for Robert Mugabe: Zimbabwe looks to be on the brink of revolution‘They
made sure that they arrested the people who are most vocal and fearless
– that is why the response is not as good as it was last week,’ Onias
Marongwa, who works in a grocery store, told AFP.
More than 150 mainly young supporters, many carrying the Zimbabwean
flag that has become a symbol of the protests, sang and chanted outside
the magistrate’s court in Harare.
Mawarire was brought into court through a back entrance, as scores of
lawyers from the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights group offered to
represent him.

‘The arrest of Pastor Evan Mawarire appears to be a well-calculated
plan to intimidate him and other activists ahead of the national
shutdown,’ Muleya Mwananyanda of Amnesty International said in a
statement.
‘Instead of suppressing dissenting voices, Zimbabwean authorities should be listening to protesters.’
Amnesty said about 300 people had been arrested for participating in protests around the country since they started last week.
The recent demonstrations have revealed long-bubbling frustration in a
country where 90 percent of the population are not in formal
employment.
Mugabe, 92, has overseen years of economic decline, repression of
dissent, allegedly rigged elections and mass emigration since he came to
power in 1980.
Last week security forces used tear gas and water cannon to disperse
violent protests outside Harare that erupted over police officers
allegedly using road blocks to extort cash from motorists.
Television footage showed police beating protesters with sticks.
The savage exploitation of girls and young women is, unfortunately, a
cross-cultural phenomenon, but only in Islamic law does it carry divine
sanction.
“Allah allows Muslims to rape non-Muslim women in order to humiliate them, claims Islamic professor,” Zee News, January 17, 2016:
"Washington: A female Islamic professor has claimed that
Allah has allowed Muslim men to rape non-Muslim women in order to
‘humiliate’ them, report stated.
Suad Saleh, who is a professor from the renowned Al-Azhar University
in Cairo, Egypt, made the claims during an interview to a TV channel.
According to The Inquisitr News report, in the video posted by
LiveLeak, Saleh says that Allah has given the Muslim men a way to have
sexual relations with slave women that is ‘legitimate’.
Saleh suggests that the only time it is acceptable for Muslim men to
enslave a woman for sexual purposes is during a ‘legitimate war’ between
Muslims and their enemies such as that with Israel.
Therefore, the female Islamic professor says that enslaving Israeli
women and raping them would be entirely acceptable and encouraged,
states The Inquistr News report.
“The female prisoners of wars are ‘those whom you own.’ In order to
humiliate them, they become the property of the army commander, or of a
Muslim, and he can have sex with them just like he has sex with his
wives,” reads the transcript of the interview provided by The Middle
East Media Research Institute.
However, after her interview went viral many including members of
Muslim community condemned her claims and termed them false propaganda
of Islam."
On May 25, 2011, a female Kuwaiti politician, Salwa al-Mutairi, also spoke out
in favor of the Islamic practice of sexual slavery of non-Muslim women,
emphasizing that the practice accorded with Islamic law and the
parameters of Islamic morality.
A merchant told me that he would like to have a sex
slave. He said he would not be negligent with her, and that Islam
permitted this sort of thing. He was speaking the truth. I brought up
[this man’s] situation to the muftis in Mecca. I told them that I had a
question, since they were men who specialized in what was halal, and
what was good, and who loved women. I said, “What is the law of sex
slaves?”
The mufti said, “With the law of sex slaves, there must be a Muslim
nation at war with a Christian nation, or a nation which is not of the
religion, not of the religion of Islam. And there must be prisoners of
war.”
“Is this forbidden by Islam?” I asked.
“Absolutely not. Sex slaves are not forbidden by Islam. On the
contrary, sex slaves are under a different law than the free woman. The
free woman must be completely covered except for her face and hands. But
the sex slave can be naked from the waist up. She differs a lot from
the free woman. While the free woman requires a marriage contract, the
sex slave does not—she only needs to be purchased by her husband, and
that’s it. Therefore the sex slave is different than the free woman.”
SO WHAT DO YOU THINK? SHOULD THE MUSLIM MEN IN YOUR AREA START RAPING LADIES FROM OTHER RELIGION IN THE NAME OF ISLAMIC LAW WHAT DO YOU THINK WILL BE THE OUT COME....????
IS SUCH LAW REALLY FROM GOD OR FROM MAN TO SATISFY THEIR LUST?.

Indonesia plans to put 16 death-row convicts to death this year,
including a Nigerian and a Zimbabwean, Attorney-General H.M. Presetyo
said on Wednesday.
Asked if there were any foreigners among the convicts to be executed,
Prasetyo told reporters:
"We have foreigners, among them from Nigeria and Zimbabwe." he said.
Mr. Prasetyo also disclosed that no convicts from the United States,
Europe or Australia were on the list to be executed.
A 59-year-old British woman, Lindsay Sandiford, was sentenced to death
after being convicted in 2013 of trying to smuggle cocaine worth $2.5
million into the country.
A Philippine maid, Mary Jane Veloso, got a last-minute reprieve last
year in response to a request from Manila after an employment recruiter,
whom Ms. Veloso had accused of planting drugs in her luggage, gave
herself up to police in the Philippines.
The death row convicts will be executed "immediately after" the Islamic
holy month of Ramadan, Mr Mohammad Rum, a spokesman for the
attorney-general's office, told AFP, last month but he did not give a
precise date.
Mr Rum did not say who would face the firing squad, but Indonesia has
been waging a campaign against narcotics and in 2015 executed 14 drug
convicts, mostly foreigners, sparking international outrage.

Nigerian man was arrested on Tuesday, July 12 by joint elements of the Philippine Drug
Enforcement Agency Region 3 (PDEA RO-3) and PDEA-National Capital Region
(PDEA-NCR) in a drug sting inside a resto bar along Don Juan Sumulong
Highway in Barangay Sto. Niῆo, Marikina City, Philipine.
According to Manila Bulletin, the 33-year-old
Nigerian identified as Ejike Okoye (alias "Martin") is believed to be a
member of West African Drug Syndicate operating in Metro Manila and
nearby provinces of Central Luzon.
PDEA RO-3 director Emerson Margate revealed that PDEA RO-3 agents
were able to secure a drug deal from Okoye to purchase of 300 grams of
shabu for PHP360,000. They agreed to meet inside the resto bar in
Marikina City. That was where they arrested the suspect.
Confiscated from the Nigerian were six
medium-sized resealable transparent plastic sachets containing a white
crystalline substance suspected to be shabu with a street value of
PHP1,050,000 and the marked money used in the anti-drug operation.
The suspect was brought in PDEA Jail Facility in Camp Olivas, City of San Fernando, Pampanga for further investigation.
Once again I am compelled to voice out my bewilderment at the
stumbling and wobbly kind of governance we have had since you came
onboard.
I wonder what you are doing right now.
I wonder if our tears, pains and hopelessness affect you in anyway.
I wonder if you are the one in charge or some other people.
You have tasted leadership before and you know what it entails. I
understand that. However, then and now are two different scenarios, two
separate dispensations.
We know you.
We know about your war against indiscipline.
We hear about your no-nonsense stand against corruption.
We have read so much about our stolen monies which you have managed to recover. Well done sha.
Meanwhile, the nagging questions that leave me sleepless most nights remain unanswered…
How much money have you collected from the looters so far?
To what use have the monies been put?
From where I stand, it seems you’re the only one in your cabinet
fighting corruption while your praise singers are busy washing you all
over town trying to convince us that you’re a good man.
I, CharlyBoy, know that you are a “good” man: someone who loves the
country, a patriot with a high sense of morals perhaps. But na that one
we go chop? Is that all that is needed to fix the rot of over 40yrs.?
I don’t think so!
To a great degree, Nigeria has become a terribly dysfunctional society.....
I didn’t vote in the last elections because I just tire with the
kalokalo leadership so far. Even when a lot of people wanted change, I
wondered what manner of change could come when in our history we never
really struggled for anything.
Before you sat on that chair, I proclaimed that Nigeria would only
survive under a benevolent dictator; one with lots of selfless love for
the country and is willing to lay down his life, one who would deal
mercilessly with all those who have ruined our land.
A lot of people thought I was talking about you.

Washington
(AFP) - US naval forces in the Arabian Sea seized a shipment of weapons
that the United States believes was sent from Iran and was bound for
Huthi rebels in Yemen, the Navy said.
The patrol ship USS Sirocco intercepted and seized the shipment hidden aboard a small dhow on March 28.
The illicit cargo included 1,500 AK-47s, 200 RPG launchers and 21 .50 caliber machine guns, the Navy said in a statement.
The dhow and its crew were allowed to sail on after the weapons were seized.
The Navy said it was the latest in a series of illicit weapons shipments which the United States believes originated in Iran.
