US NAVY SEIZES IRANIAN WEAPONS BOUND FOR YEMEN REBELS

Washington (AFP) - US naval forces in the Arabian Sea seized a shipment of weapons that the United States believes was sent from Iran and was bound for Huthi rebels in Yemen, the Navy said.
The patrol ship USS Sirocco intercepted and seized the shipment hidden aboard a small dhow on March 28.
The illicit cargo included 1,500 AK-47s, 200 RPG launchers and 21 .50 caliber machine guns, the Navy said in a statement.
The dhow and its crew were allowed to sail on after the weapons were seized.
The Navy said it was the latest in a series of illicit weapons shipments which the United States believes originated in Iran.
Pro-government Yemeni forces, backed by a Saudi-led coalition, have been battling the Iran-backed Shiite Huthi rebels for more than a year.
The warring parties are preparing for a UN-brokered ceasefire due to take effect on April 10 and intended to pave the way for peace talks in Kuwait a week later.

Four Men Accused of Raping 9-Year-Old While Her Mother Was Away Smoking Meth: Cops

According to the Uintah County Sheriff's Department, the men found the girl asleep on the couch while her mom was in the garage smoking methamphetamine on March 27.

"During that time, the child was taken into another room in the home where she was raped by the four men," reads the sheriff's statement.

Authorities first took a report on the incident March 29.
Sheriff’s investigators conducted interviews which led to a search warrant being executed at the alleged scene of the crime.

Larson RonDeau, 36, was detained while police executed the warrant. He was later arrested on March 29.

Also arrested on March 31 and April 1 were 20-year-old Josiah RonDeau, 29-year-old Jerry Flatlip, and 26-year-old Randall Flatlip.

IFEANYI UBAH RESTATES COMMITMENT TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF NIGERIAN FOOTBALL

President of FC Ifeanyi Ubah, Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, has reiterated his unflinching passion and commitment to the development of football in the country. According to him, this was irrespective of the verdict of the LMC on him, arising from a recent incident after an NPFL match between his club and Heartland of Owerri in Nnewi.

The business mogul, who insisted he would not appeal the decision of the LMC, however, observed that he was not given the benefit of fair hearing before a guilty verdict was passed on him.

“I have accepted to put the issue behind me. However, it is pertinent to observe that I was neither summoned nor given the opportunity by the LMC to either defend or respond to the allegations leveled on me before a verdict was reached and pronounced by the LMC. Also other sanctioned parties were denied their right to fair hearing.
He advised the LMC board to endevour to accord parties’ right to fair hearing in its disciplinary procedures to encourage mutual respect and trust.
“It is a constitutionally guaranteed right to give fair hearing to all parties before decisions are reached and pronounced. “The evidence upon which the LMC arrived at its findings and verdict does not entirely reflect what transpired on the field of play during the incident. If I had an opportunity, I would have given the LMC more insight and facts of the matter. Be that as it may, I have taken their decisions in the true spirit of sportsmanship and commitment to the future of Nigerian football.” He said: “Contrary to the impression the incident may have created; I remain one of the biggest supporters of Nigerian football, which has earned me massive recognition by the Nigeria Football Federation, as I was conferred with the Ambassador of Nigerian Football award by the Alhaji Maigari led NFF five years ago, I couldn’t have willfully done anything to bring the game to disrepute. Ubah, who resents the manhandling of match officials by fans said: “I wish also to advice that the LMC do everything legally possible to protect referees and other match officials at match venues. It is most unfortunate that my intervention which was erroneously misrepresented was to avert the impending melee which perhaps would have resulted in ugly end. I remain grateful to God for averting the impending bloodshed.
He sympathized with the referee and other match officials, who were assaulted during the incident, and pleaded with the LMC to review security measures at match venues across the country to guarantee the safety and protection of match officials.
“My heart goes out to the match officials who were assaulted on our home ground. I feel sad that no mention was made about the pains they suffered during the incident. I think they deserve our sympathy. I pray that measures will be taken by the LMC to protect the referees and other match officials at match venues. Continuing he said: “The player in question is someone I share very strong tie with his family, especially his younger brother. I refrain from getting into any form of dispute with him or his family. He further said: “I hope the lessons of the incidents help us to build a stronger football culture in the country.”

NO GOING BACK ON FUEL SUBSIDY REMOVAL – PPPRA

The Federal Government says it has not reversed its decision to remove subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) popularly called petrol. In a statement released by the Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA), Sotonye Iyoyo, the agency stated that contrary to media reports, what still exists is Price Modulation Policy, through which it considers and reviews pump price of PMS quarterly.

"The Agency also wishes to assure Nigerians that the funds from Over-Recovery in the first quarter (Q1) shall be duly utilized for whatever noticeable imbalance in April 2016 in line with the Price Modulation Principle". While appreciating the patience of Nigerians, the PPPRA reiterated its commitment to ensuring seamless supply and distribution of petroleum products nationwide.

'ARROGANCE, GREED, SELL-OUT COST PDP THE PRESIDENCY' - SHERIFF SAYS

PDP National Chairman, Alimodu Sheriff says arrogance, greed, sell-out contributed to PDP losing in the 2015 Presidential election. He said this in an interview with Thisday today April 4th.

“I know that arrogance was one of such issues and I also know that some of our party men and women sold out. So many factors contributed to Jonathan’s failure to win the elections.
I may not be able to tell you everything now, but it is an open secret that even his own men worked against him. By the time we went into that election, so many things had happened which served as warning signals of failure, but they were ignored. The PDP was in a better position to win, but somehow, we squandered our fortunes and we paid for it. We know better now and we will work towards avoiding some of the obvious pitfalls.” he said

WE NEED TO RE-ESTABLISH THE INTEGRITY OF NIGERIA- BUHARI

Press statement from the Presidency

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday in Abuja stressed the urgent need to ensure that the potentials of Nigeria are harnessed and used for the good of the country.
Receiving the President of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), Dr Bernard O. Aliyu at the State House, Abuja, President Buhari declared: “Nigeria needs to work on her potentials, so that we don't remain permanently at the level of potentials.
“If Ethiopia is sustained largely by her airline industry, we have greater potentials here. But we must move out, engage with the rest of the world, as we need to re-establish the integrity of this country. We need to rebuild this country again."
The President recounted that for the greater part of the last 16 years, oil sold above $100 per barrel but expressed regret that the nation did n0t have much to show for it.
“In the First Republic, more enduring infrastructure was built with meagre resources.
But in the past 16 years, we made a lot of money without planning for the rainy day. “We showed a lot of indiscipline in managing our economy, and that is why we are where we are today. But this time round, we'll do our best."
Dr Aliyu, the Nigerian-born ICAO president commended President Buhari for strides on anti- corruption, and urged Nigeria to pay more attention to development of civil aviation. “Civil aviation is a catalyst for economic development.
The level of aviation development in any country mirrors the economic development of that country," Dr Aliyu said. The ICAO president pledged to support the development of the aviation industry in Nigeria, urging the country to improve on training and capacity development, aviation security, aerodromes and air navigation, runways, control towers, terminal buildings, among others.

FUEL SCARCITY LIKELY TO END IN MAY - MARKETER

Contrary to the pledge by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, that lingering fuel scarcity in the country would end on or before Thursday, April 7, marketers and depot owners said on Sunday that consumers might have to endure inadequate supply of the product till May.

The minister had initially given May as the most likely date for the fuel scarcity to abate but was forced to recant and say the situation should normalise latest by Thursday following criticisms from different segments of the country.

An  anonymous Marketer was interview by punch newspaper, He said only one of the three parking spaces at the Apapa Port was discharging Premium Motor Spirit, adding that instead of the two vessels that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation had promised would discharge by last weekend, only one actually came in.

According to the source, the vessel, which carried 21 million metric tonnes of petrol, berthed at the Apapa Port on Thursday and only commenced discharging its content on Saturday.

He explained, “The system is dislocated and even if the marketers decide to import now, it will take a minimum of 21 days for the fuel to come to Nigeria. The arrangement before now was for the marketers to import 60 per cent of the country’s petrol need, and the NNPC to bring in the balance.

“But the arrangement was changed midway for the NNPC to import 78 per cent, while the marketers were left with 22 per cent. However, the corporation lacks the capacity and facilities to do this well. It is doing less than 60 per of its allocation; so, I don’t know what magic it will perform to end the fuel scarcity by Thursday.”

Another marketer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, explained that before now, his firm was getting on the average four cargos of PMS per quarter, but that the number had been reduced to one cargo of 30 million metric tonnes, which translated into about 120 trucks to service over 3,000 retail outlets.

The marketers said their ability to import petroleum products would be determined by foreign exchange availability.

The Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency had last week released the second quarter petrol import allocations, with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation given 41.7 per cent and private marketers 58.3 per cent of the national consumption.

ommenting on the increased allocation to the marketers for the second quarter, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, Lagos Zone, Alhaji Tokunbo Korodo, described it as a welcome development.

“I think it will create the enabling environment for the marketers to contribute their quota to the supply. But the most important thing is that the government should make forex available to them as they promised so that we can bring this scarcity to an end.”

I’m sorry, I’ll refund money, Zuma tells South Africans

South African President, Jacob Zuma, has welcomed the court judgement asking him to pay back part of the money spent on upgrading his Nkandla homestead.

Zuma said in a televised address to the nation on Friday that he was willing to pay back money spent on non-security related upgrades at the house.

The President, in the address, urged “all parties to respect the judgement and will abide by it.”
“Let us use the judgement to build and further strengthen our democracy,” he added.

South Africa’s top court held on Thursday that President Jacob Zuma defied the constitution when he used $15m state funds to renovate his private home and ordered a refund.

The 11 justices of the country’s Constitutional Court had unanimously ruled that the President should reimburse some of the sum spent on the renovations, the amount of which will be determined by the national treasury.

Opposition parties had filed two cases, alleging misuse of public funds over the hefty price tag.
Zuma, therefore, apologised any inconvenience that the prolonged matter might have caused his people, saying, “The matter has caused a lot of frustration and confusion, for which I apologise, on my behalf and on behalf of government.”

A full text of Zuma’s address as reported on News24 read in part, “Yesterday, the Constitutional Court of the Republic, playing this crucial role, issued a judgement on the matter of security upgrades at my private residence in Nkandla.

“I welcome the judgement of the Constitutional Court unreservedly.

PDP RESPONSIBLE FOR FUEL SCARCITY?

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has asked Nigerians to hold the Peoples Democratic Party responsible for the ongoing fuel scarcity across the country.

Tinubu said the PDP destroyed Nigeria during its 16-year rule.
The APC chieftain said the PDP refused to pursue what was necessary for the growth and development of the country.

He said, “We want to stay focused and redirect Nigeria. We want to reverse the decay of 16 years. We are hearing comments from the PDP left and right. We are saying we want to clear the mess they created. For 16 good years, the PDP destroyed the country. We should not be lamenting over petrol queues today if they had seen what was necessary and done what was necessary for this country.

“We can’t be emotional and live in self-denial.  They should have done the Awolowo Road and the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway. If they put priority on our railroad, if they put priority on electricity generation and distribution, we will not be in this mess  today.”

Tinubu also debunked the speculation in some quarters that Nigerians were dissatisfied with the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC government.

He said, “Nigerians are not impatient with the APC government; they just want to see the direction of the economic policy and want to be certain of the future. They want to be assured that we will not continue the leaderless, directionless and hopelessness of the past 16 years.

“The fact is that Nigerians do not want the importation of toothpicks to continue, we can make toothpicks out of our bamboo trees. Nigeria does not want to import rice or plastic. Nigeria does not want to continue in the direction of the past 16 years. What did they leave behind in our account? Why should certain things that we bring into this country become our priority? Why do we have to import those things that we can produce? The country needs surgical operation in the hands of a very honest Nigeria.”

NIGERIANS ARE SUFFERING, “JOKE OF THE YEAR” - FAYOSE

Read the press statement below...
Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has called on well-meaning Nigerians to prevail on President Mohammadu Buhari to stop his needless foreign trips, describing the president’s trip to the United States of America on Wednesday for the 4th Nuclear Security Summit while Nigerians are suffering at home as “joke of the year.”
The governor said “it remains a mystery what President Buhari that met power generation at 6,000MW and could not manage it such that power generation crumbled to Zero Megawatt yesterday, will contribute to the Nuclear Energy Summit in America.”

Speaking through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said “it is shameful that while President Buhari was far away in the United States of America, attending a summit that does not have any bearing on Nigeria and its people, an unprecedented happened - power generation stopped completely for over three hours!”

He said the sufferings of Nigerians deserved the attention of the president instead of junketing around the world, wasting the country’s scarce foreign exchange. The governor alleged that over $50 million must have been spent on the president’s frequent foreign trips, adding that Nigerians should ask President Buhari whether his trip to the United States of America to attend Nuclear Energy Summit will bring the lingering fuel scarcity being experienced in the country to an end.

“Nigerians are suffering. Petrol has become so scarce that our people now sleep in petrol stations to buy fuel at N200 per litre while the president who should alleviate their sufferings is in the USA, attending a summit that he won’t even understand whatever that is discussed there. “This is not acceptable. Mr President should stay at home and see to it that at least, power generation returns to 6,000MW that he met it if he cannot add to it.

“Mr President should stay at home and bring this fuel scarcity that has paralysed almost all activities in the country to an end. “Nigerians are saying their president should stay at home and bring to an end the killings, raping of women and destruction of farmlands by Fulani herdsmen.

“Most importantly, the President should listen more to those of us who criticise him instead of those hailing every of his wrong steps either because of what they intend to gain or for fear of persecution,” the governor said.

A third man was executed in the same way before the killer paraded the head of one of his victims around. The Bulldozer has beheaded men and severed the limbs of children. One 14-year-old Syrian boy called Omar has told how the ISIS extremist, a towering figure in black, cut off his hand and foot because he refused to join IS.

DENRELE TALKS ABOUT HIS EXPERIENCE ON THE SET

What he wrote below...
They say that true artists suffer for their craft, but perhaps no artist has suffered like myself on this hustle of ours! The moment I got the script titled #Peppersoup from Grace Oboba Edwin-Okon with me Denrele as the lead character, I just wanted to jump on board! And yes, I jumped on in my gangsta mode!
Whilst shooting the first scene, I was supposed to pass out but in a bid to make it convincing, I fell on my face and accidentally split my eye brow area open! I bled like crazy!!! REAL BLOOD!!!

The producer wanted to strike set and cancel the shoot but I refused! Say what? First rule: the show must go on! And I was kinda lucky we were shooting in an hospital (Pinnacle Medical centre) so there were nurses to dress the wound.

Had to add some extra extra extension to my hair to hide the plaster....And I got back on set like nothing happened! I'm was in a lot of pain buy hey...Pinnacle medical services and Derwin Productions had put too much into the project for Peppersoup to be scrapped..THE SHOW MUST GO ON!

I had fun shooting Peppersoup with Layole Oyatogun, Beverly Osu, Lisa Omorodion, Lilian Afegbai, Bryan Stevens and all the other cast members as well as the amazing crew the Executive producer Dr. Maymunah Kadiri, the director/producer Grace Oboba Edwin-Okon and everyone else who worked on Peppersoup. BEAUTIFUL INDIAN TV ACTRESS, PRATYUSHA BANERJEE COMMITS SUICIDE

The Indian entertainment industry is in shock. The hashtag #PratyushaBanerjee  is the number trending topic in the country right now. Television actress Pratyusha Banerjee, known for her role in popular TV series Balika Vadhu, committed suicide today Friday April 1st. A Mumbai police officer said the 24-year-old was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her house in Mumbai’s Goregaon. Some 'personal reasons' are said to be behind the suicide.

Banerjee was rushed to the Kokilaben Ambani Hospital in Andheri but was declared dead upon arrival. Confirming the news, Mumbai police spokesperson Dhananjay Kulkarni said that the hospital has sent a report on the Jamshedpur-born actress’s death. Police are investigating the probable cause that may have led Banerjee to resort to commit suicide.

Banerjee was best known for her debut role in Balika Vadhu. She later shifted to reality shows and participated in Bigg Boss 7. Her last outing on TV was in Sasural Simar Ka ..

Earlier in January, she was in the news after she filed an FIR in Mumbai alleging that eight policemen tried to ‘barge into’ her house and misbehave with her.

Banerjee had claimed in her complaint that the men barged into her flat in Laljipada and left the place only after she threatened to call the police.

Before entering Bigg Boss 7 in 2013, Banerjee had made headlines when she filed an FIR against her boyfriend Makrand Malhotra.

Actor Dolly Bindra said no one from the film fraternity believes she could have ended her life.

Various artists apart from Bindra including Sara Khan, Jay Bhanushali, Meghna Naidu, Sachin Shroff were seen waiting outside the accident and emergency ward at the hospital soon as the news reached them.
